HEIC to JPG

Convert an iPhone HEIC or HEIF photo to a JPEG. The picture is decoded on your device, so a private photo does not have to be uploaded to become a file everyone can open.

On this device

This file never leaves your device. The tool runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Drop a .heic or .heif photo.
  2. Wait for the local decode. Large photos take a few seconds.
  3. Download the JPEG.
  4. Compress it if a form wants a smaller file.

An iPhone photo for a Windows PC

A 1.5 MB HEIC from a recent iPhone becomes a JPEG around a similar visual size. Send the JPEG. The recipient does not need a HEIC codec.

iPhones shoot HEIC by default because it stores more detail in fewer bytes. Windows, older Android phones, and many websites still want JPEG. This page uses a decoder in the browser. Very new or unusual HEIC files can fail in a given browser. If that happens, the page says so, and the iPhone share sheet can also export a JPEG as a fallback. After you have a JPEG, the compress tool can bring it under a size limit.

Questions

How do I convert HEIC to JPG?

Drop the HEIC file on this page and download the JPEG. The conversion runs in the browser.

Why would a HEIC file fail?

A few HEIC variants are not supported by the in-browser decoder. Export a JPEG from the iPhone Photos share sheet, or try a current desktop version of Chrome.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is read in your browser and processed on this device. ProHacks does not receive the photo or the PDF.

Does this keep the full resolution?

Yes, up to a 16 megapixel working limit. Larger photos are scaled down so the tab stays stable, and the page reports the exported size.
