Password Generator
Generate a random password on your device. Choose the length and whether to include capitals, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. Copy it. It is not sent anywhere.
Generate one
Ambiguous characters like O, 0, I, and 1 are left out.
How to use it
- Set a length. Sixteen or more is a solid default.
- Leave all character sets on unless a site forbids symbols.
- Generate, then copy.
- Store it in a password manager rather than in a note named passwords.
Sixteen mixed characters
A 16-character password from uppercase, lowercase, digits, and symbols has about 104 bits of entropy. That is not a phrase a person can guess by thinking of birthdays.
A password is strong when it is random and long, not when it looks clever. This generator uses the browser’s cryptographic random source and rejection sampling so letters are not biased by modulo wraparound. It then places at least one character from each set you enabled, and shuffles them. Strength is shown as entropy in bits: length times the base-2 log of the alphabet size. Sixteen characters from a full mix is a practical default. The page cannot see whether you reuse the password elsewhere. A password manager is the right place to keep it.
Questions
How do I create a strong password?
Use at least 16 random characters from a large alphabet, and do not reuse it. The generator builds that kind of string locally.
Is this password stored?
No. It exists in the page until you leave or generate another. Copy it into a password manager.
What does the bit rating mean?
It is the entropy of a truly random password of that length and alphabet. Under 40 is weak, around 60 is fair, and 80 or more is strong for most accounts.
Why do some sites reject the password?
A few forms ban symbols or demand a maximum length. Turn symbols off or shorten the string, then generate again.
