Unix Timestamp

Local: Sun Nov 01 2026 02:58:20 GMT+0530 (India Standard Time)

How to use it

  1. Paste a timestamp, or tap Use now.
  2. Choose seconds or milliseconds.
  3. Read the local time and the UTC time.
  4. Or pick a date and copy the timestamp it produces.

The Unix epoch

Timestamp 0 in seconds is 1 January 1970 at 00:00:00 UTC. One day later is 86400. A millisecond timestamp for the same epoch is 0 as well, and one second later is 1000.

Unix time counts seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, ignoring leap seconds. JavaScript and many APIs use milliseconds, which are that count times 1,000. A 10-digit number is almost always seconds. A 13-digit number is almost always milliseconds. This page lets you force either interpretation so a value is not guessed wrong. Dates you type are read as local time on your device, and the result shows both that local reading and UTC.

Questions

What is a Unix timestamp?

It is the number of seconds since 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC, not counting leap seconds.

How do I know if a timestamp is in milliseconds?

Second timestamps currently have 10 digits. Millisecond timestamps have 13. This page also lets you choose, instead of guessing.

Which time zone is the date?

A timestamp is an absolute instant. The page shows that instant in your local zone and in UTC.

Is the value uploaded?

No. The conversion runs locally.
